GSRD Foundation
The GSRD Foundation and Plan International
The GSRD Foundation wants to make a positive impact on the lives of people and communities in the countries where G-Star RAW products are made. An Amsterdam denim brand, G-Star RAW created the GSRD Foundation in 2007 to further knowledge and business opportunities, as they are the key to economic independence and development. Since 2010, the GSRD Foundation has been a partner of Plan Netherlands, supporting projects that focus on vocational education and entrepreneurship.
Economic independence and job guarantee
The GSRD Foundation has supported the Saksham project in India since 2010. The project offers vocational education and training in social skills to young people from the slums of New Delhi and Hyderabad who are excluded from government support. The young people follow a three-month training course which meets the needs of the local labour market, and do an internship. After the training, a job is guaranteed. At least half of the participants are girls. Raising awareness of the importance of empowering girls to become economically independent is an important part of the project
Essential skills
As part of the REACH project, young people from the poorest sections of the Vietnamese population follow a three-month vocational training course that reflects demand from local employers. They are also prepared for the job market by learning skills such as teamwork, marketing and customer-oriented communication.
Local companies from varied sectors are involved in REACH. They give practical lessons and offer internship places to the students, increasing their chances of a paid job. For example, 160 young people in Hue City and Hanoi found employment after REACH as beauticians. Most students move on to permanent work after their internship, and more than 80 percent keep the job.
Together with Plan, we are very happy to support young people in India and Vietnam in developing and deploying their capacities. These projects fit perfectly with the objective of the GSRD Foundation.
